Step into the working life of 19th-century Västergötland. During this guided tour, you'll explore exhibitions, learn how alum and lime shaped the local economy, and see a live demonstration of lime slaking – once essential in farming and construction.
Karlsfors Gård offers a unique window into Sweden’s industrial past. Your visit begins in one of the original worker homes from the mid-1800s. Through guided storytelling and museum exhibits, you’ll learn how the area’s natural resources were used to extract alum and burn lime – materials that supported both agriculture and industry.
One of the highlights is a live demonstration of lime slaking, where you’ll witness the chemical reaction and craftsmanship behind a centuries-old technique. The environment around the farm still carries visible traces of the site’s industrial legacy.
After the tour, guests are welcome to visit the farm café, gallery, or shop, depending on the season.
At Karlsfors Museum you'll find a charming café and bakery offering freshly baked goods and light lunches, as well as a shop and art gallery featuring carefully curated works and products.
