During the tour, you’ll hear how the town developed from the Middle Ages and evolved over the centuries. Along the way, listen to fascinating stories about the monks who once arrived here, the great fire that reshaped the town, and how steamship traffic on Lake Vättern influenced its growth. The tour also takes you past old marketplaces, historic paths, and well-preserved wooden buildings that tell the story of Hjo’s past.
This 1.5 km walking tour is led by a knowledgeable guide who brings history to life with engaging anecdotes. The tour starts at Hjo Tourist Information and lasts just over an hour. Wear comfortable shoes and dress according to the weather to make the most of this historical journey through one of Sweden’s best-preserved wooden towns.
Comfortable shoes and weather-appropriate clothing are recommended. The tour is available from July 2 to August 9, 2025, on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, starting at 14:00.
